my wife and i are in the process of trying to get out of the wts, presently we live on the east coast of the us, but are planning to move to the west coast in 6 months.

My husband and I both left at the same time and I believe it has been so much easier for us both because of that, we have been able to talk through all the problems that faced us, we jumped over those hurdles together, we always had each other to lean on and go to for support.

I took the decision to disassociate myself as I am the type of person who likes to make a clean break of things, I do not like to leave things hanging, I felt that I needed to get my thoughts down on paper and let the elders, and some of my friends, know the exact reasons why I was so unhappy with being in the organisation. My husband was happy just to stop associating, he wanted to be accessible to those in the congregation who may want to ask him further questions... needless to say this never happens!

Anyway, a big welcome to you, I hope you find all the support and good wishes here that you deserve, I know that I have.

ex-jw meetings in UK?

does anyone know of any ex-jw get togethers in the uk?

anything from a pint down the pub to our own convention?.

i would really like to meet up with other ex-jw's, not necessarily to discuss religion.

Early next summer I intend to host a big ex's barbie and can arrange overnight accomodation in WSM for about £35 per couple. I'll post more details later in the year so that everyone has bags of notice well in advance.

Count us in on that one E'man! You can put our names down for that one straight away!

PS. Any others here from Devon or Cornwall or Somerset? Lurkers included??

what are the most stupid jw rule?.

what do you consider to be the most stupid rules or tradition of the jw lives?

im thinking about any kind of rule or regulative that only has one answer to the questions why:.

To add a little to the debate on acceptable/non acceptable clothing, this brought to mind a talk we were given on the evils of wearing clothes with 'labels', you know the sort of thing, Nike, Adidas, etc..

We were told to examine the meanings behind these sort of labels, check out their origins, they may be pagan/occult/blasphemous etc.

So all the teenagers were now expected to wear daggy clothes, bet the parents were relieved though now that expensive labels had to be replaced by cheaper imitations....

glancing through an old bound volume doing a bit of research, my eyes happened to alight on an article about evil spirits and what they are up to on the earth today, made for interesting reading..... february 1st 1994 watchtower.

reports from around the world show that satan and the demons are as malicious as ever.

some people they strike with illness.

larc - agree with you there, I knew a sister who was woken up in the night by her daughter who reckoned there was someone sitting on the end of the bed and she could hear him breathing. The sister realised she had been given some second hand blouses that day and she went to the wardrobe, took them out and flung them out of the bedroom window. No more problems after that... weird.

But do those that have left the organisation still believe in demons?

More New Light?

interesting comment made in the chat room yesterday.... it was noted that during a talk by a bethelite at a recent dc he made the following point - the reason we are not on the other side of armageddon is that we (jws) do not and have not listened to authority.. now it has to wait like the disobedient israelites had to.. until the next generation.

now, i would presume this is some more of this 'new light' because i'd never heard this thought before... has anyone else heard it?.

can anyone elaborate further.... i wasn't there myself.... interesting implications though, the disobedient israelite generation did not get into the promised land did they?
